I am a bookseller and deal regularly with Chaukhamba Vidyabhawan. They are one

of the foremost publishers of Indology and Sanskrit literature in the world.

They have the best scholars writing for them. I have sold plenty of copies of

"Nirnaysindhu", and never once got the feedback that the Hindi translation was

archaic. I have Chaukhamba's "Dharmasindhu" in my hands, and the Hindi

translatoin is impeccable! The Hindi is just superb. Not outdated.

 

If your friend has difficulty in following Chaukhamba Sanskrit - Hindi

translations, maybe he should work harder at his Hindi. Chaukhamba

publications use standard correct Hindi, not dialects.

 

The next time I get a Nirnaysindhu in my hands, I will let you know the exact

date of the first edition. But please rest assured that you have the genuine

article in your hands.

Should be around 1890. He lived in Moradabada , uttar pradesh.

Was an eminent sanskrit scholar of the region though a Bengali.

 

 

My family came to Delhi from Moradabad.

 

That is the printed Hindi of 1870 onwards. Plenty of other authors

and a huge amount of published lit in this. It has some

Brajbhaashaa usages and has less of 'khar.ii boli' in it.

However, it is not that archaic. It is also not free

of the late medieval hindi prose style and 'nautankii' narrative.

 

Moradabad area is even now under the braja influence. The rural

speak still speak in the language written by Vrajratna Bhattacharya.

 

He translated classical plays into Hindi as well,

most noted was Ratnavalii. published 1894, Nirnaya Sagar.
