Dear List Members,

1. Regarding Pampa Bharata, the following reference may be

useful to some scholars:

Ramachandra Rao B.(1972) :"A descriptive grammar of

Pampa Bharata", Mysore University.

This is a Ph.D. thesis which was submitted to Osmania University.

2. I have come to know that Kannada University, Hampi is going

to publish "Dravida vyutpatti kosha", the translation of which is

being prepared by K V Narayana. Can somebody tell, whether

this is the translation of DED(1961) or DEDR(1984) ?

3. Is there any plan to publish the Hindi translation of Pampa

Bharata ?

4. Can somebody give me email addresses of a few scholars

well-versed in the grammars of ha.la-ganna.da, na.du-ganna.da and

hosa-ganna.da ?

5. Is the Kannada-Nighantu, published by Kannada Sahitya Parishat,

Bangalore, complete by now ? How many volumes ? As per the

information in "Kannada nighantu shaastra"(1993) by Prof G

Venkatasubbayya, the 7th Vol. was published by the end of 1991.

Best regards.

In 1882, Benjamin Loirice first wrote about Pampa and published the

Pampa Bharata. In 1900, Sri S G Narasimhachar brought out Adi Purana

and in 1931, Kannada Sahitya Parishat published the revised edition

of Pampa Bharata. At that time the 'Pampotsava' was celebrated at

Laxmeshwar. The state government later established the 'Pampa

Foundation' at Annigeri and also instituted 'Pampa' award. The Hampi

Kannada University has also instituted 'Nadoja' award in memory of

Pampa.
