The literal meaning of prasAda (the "m" is just the neuter nominative

ending, not part of the stem) is something like "grace" or favour": hence

its use in Hindu worship to refer to food, flowers etc, previously been

offered to a deity, that are given to worshippers as a sign of the deity's

grace.

It is derived from sad- to sit, with the prefix pra, towards: hence, to

settle down, become calm/clear/happy. Probably it was originally used of

water, weather etc becoming calm, but early became extended to refer to

happy and peaceful states of mind.

the word prasadam is made of following subcomponent words:

prefix=pra;

root=:sad=:accomodation,place,or house,

am= secont karakaH stands for: to,

so the total word when seen ,it stands for to be kept or stored

properly.since it is a offering to God,there is no bettere place then

the humen stomatch,as the total purpose of puja is for betterment of

menkind.

normally this word is used for God,s offerings only.
