Guest guest
Dear list members, When I access the Library of Congress or the New York Public Library on-line catalogues, the titles of Sanskrit works are encoded with what appears to be the ANSI character set as follows: 1) long a = a circumflex 2) all other long letters = macron before the letter. 3) palatal nasal = n tilde 4) dental nasal = n Note: this is displayed differently than what is listed in the ALA-LC Romanization tables. A) Can someone give me the complete encoding scheme. Does it have a name. B) Is the displaying of Sanskrit using this encoding part of the AACR2 rules. C) At the bottom of the ALA-LC Romanization tables it gives a list of special characters in what is called USMARC hexadecimal code. What is the relationship of this encoding to AACR2. Is this the required encoding for MARC records. >"Allen W Thrasher" <athr >INDOLOGY ><indology >[Y-Indology] ALA/LC Romanization tables on the web >Wed, 01 May 2002 14:33:01 -0400 > >The scanned text of the 1997 edition of the ALA-LC (American Library >Association/Library of Congress) Romanization Tables is now available as >PDF files on the Cataloging Policy and Support Office Web site at URL ><http://lcweb.loc.gov/catdir/cpso/roman.html>. > > > >Allen W.
