Guest guest
Who -did- name the Khyber Pass? "Although the Pashtuns are the predominant ethnic group living in the outlays of the Pass, "Khyber" is not a Pashto word but a Hebrew term meaning "fortress". Many historians speculate that a Jewish tribe chased out of Palestine by Alexander the Great sought refuge in the Pass, travelling as far as Tibet and Kashmir. Historians then assume the dispersed Jewish tribe gradually assimilated itself into the local population, converting to Buddhism and later Islam.
