Guest guest
Gupta's query : I am curious to know why Indus valley script has not been decoded so far in spite of great advances in information ----------------Ineed a sharp question. I suggest you read Nehru's Discovery of India. During its early days of excavations Nehru had visited Moen Jo Daro and Harappa with the then curator ( I forget his name) and had lodged serious complain to the archeological department for deliberate negligence and a purposeful slow progress. In a year or two after Nehru's visit the area was devastated by heavy flood and storm and amny relics had been wiped out beyond recognition. A few years later Jawahar revisited the place and found to his consternation much that was original had either been destroyed or stolen or allowed to be weathered away. I believe, very soon the government aid for the works was withdrawn and the project was languishing for want of funds and proper care. However, one Bengali, Rakhaldas Benerji, poured in life time's savings and salvaged with singular efforts whatever he could. We have suffered huge losses. Rohit Zaveri.
