The SahyAdrikhaNDa, as found in J. Gerson da Cunha's 1877 edition, is

most obviously a very late addition to the SkandapurANa. It is not

found in the older mss of the SP. Since the SahyAdrikhaNDa contains

chapters extolling certain Brahmin groups (like the SArasvata

Brahmins of Konkan) and demeaning other Brahmin groups (particularly

the Chitpavans and the Karhade Brahmins), there is enough evidence in

Marathi sources indicating various groups adding or removing

different chapters from the text, and the Peshwas of Maharashtra (who

were Chitpavan Brahmins) destroying the copies of this text and

punishing those Brahmins who possessed copies of the text. The

abusive narratives in SahyAdrikhaNDa against Chitpavan and KarhADe

Brahmins are so violent, the Marathi translator of the SKh, Mr.

Gajanan Gayatonde, omits these passages from his translation in his

1971 edition. I have discussed this text and its politics in a

forthcoming article (in German) "Panca-GauDa und Panca-DrAviDa.

Umstrittene Grenzen einer traditionellen Klassifikation", appearing

in a volume being published from Halle in Germany. Best,

Here is a reference to a text-critical study of the SahyAdrikhaNDa:

Levitt, Stephan Hillyer, 1977, "The SahyAdrikhaNDa: Some Problems

Concerning a Text-Critical Edition of a Puranic Text." In the

journal PuraaNa, vol. 19, no. 1, pp. 8-40.
