Hi, does anyone know if I can find a complete English translation of the

Mahabharata on-line? I can only find excerpts containing the deluge story

from it. Does anyone know where I may also find a reliable version of the

deluge story from the Puranas as well as the Satapatha Brahmanas? Ideally,

I would love to have the complete text for the Satapatha Brahmanas as I am

also interested in the references to altars in it. Do entire English

versions of these important texts exist on-line at this time? I would

really like to compare the versions of the deluge that appear in all them

but since I am working here in Japan (and not a student) I have limited

access to any university texts here.

If you happen to have a text copy of any or all of these of your own I would

be extremely appreciative for the chance to share them.

: )

Thanks for any help you may give,

-Chris

The following article might interest you

Vedic and Mesopotamian Deluge Myths - A comparative study of the

Mesopotamian deluge myths:

To my knowledge, there is no complete translation of the Mbh on the

web. For the text of SBr, see the Vedavid site at

http://vedavid.org/tablemap.html

The only complete English translation on SBr. is of course by

Eggeling (Sacred Books of East Series, in 5 volumes) and deals with

the Madhyandina Sakha. An English translation on the Kanva Satpatha

Brahmana by C. R. Swaminathan is complete, to my knowledge, although

only 4 volumes covering the first 8 kandas are published yet, with

the 5th volume under preparation for publication. These are printed

by Motilal Banarsidass - see their online store at

http://www.newagebooksindia.com

There are many articles related to the geometrical shape of altars in

general, a recent one being -

STAAL, Frits. 2001. "Squares and Oblongs in the Veda," Journal of

Indian Philosophy 29:257-273

Another article by the same author titled "Shapes of Vedic Altars,"

Volume on Mandala, ed. Gudrun Buhnen, is under publication (at least

I have not encountered a printed version of this one yet).
