This complementary pair is found in Buddhism and Jainism as well. This brings me to a point which was asserted (without evidence) recently at a conference. The man proclaimed that the "theory of karma" is found fully developed in the Rig Veda. I know of several studies on the subject, which conclude that this central concept is curiously absent from the Rig Veda. The use of the word *karma* in that most ancient text refers to ritual actions. Any specific citations which show otherwise would be appreciated. best wishes, Tim Cahill
