During that time, list discussion has become much more civil than at some times in the past, so that I have not had to reject many postings. I am very glad to see this. has just made it more irksome for me to be a moderator, by altering the interface, so that I am transferred to an ad page in between every posting I moderate. I cannot stand this as I do not like ads (one of the reasons I do not own a television). So, I am going to try an experiment. Starting now, I will not longer micro-moderate the list. All members are expected to moderate themselves. Please do keep in mind how unpleasant the list became in June 2001, when my effort at moderation began. For reference, you may consult the archives. For more specific suggestions, please also refer to: INDOLOGY/message/1205 *IMPORTANT*: in future, moderation may take the following forms: a) If individual persons are posting too much, are rude, unscholarly in the extreme, or the like, they may be banned from the list. Such banning may occur with little or no warning and no explanation--so do be cognizant of your own behaviour! (Consistently egregious behaviour of a bannable sort may be reported to INDOLOGY-owner) b) if the list in general degenerates (as it did in June 2001), it may be shut down entirely--again, with little or no warning! I do believe that the membership has shown itself able to self-moderate when aware that official moderation is in place.
