We were wishing for a higher scale of academic valor here. The position itself is generic Buddhist, as it indicates a standard, signature perspective - a credo, a creed - an article of faith. Yet, what suppositions does this article of faith actually involve? What are the real implications that emerge from the crafting of the Founder as a messianic embodiment of knowledge and being the dimensions of which unquestionably usher at a single, all-important point in time, an utter evolutionary alteration that effectively rights the entire course of civilization on its sanctified path towards true soteriological efflorescence? Is this really the path that we want to be going down? What self-depreciating urge possesses us [buddhists] to subject ourselves such heightened degrees of intellectual tyranny? Why is it so important for us to ascribe the early Buddhist texts to an urban legend which dissenting commentary – free from the restraints of sectarian view - may just as well portray as a master of diplomatic charlatanry? _______ Troy Dean Harris
