Guest guest
First thanks to all the list members for their suggestions for a short explanation of sandhi. Its clear that most spelling/pronunciation changes due to sandhi describe what would naturally happen when separate words are brought together in speech. I.e. unvoiced consonent + voiced consonent becoming voiced consonent + voiced consonent etc. but there seem to be others that are not quite so intuitively obvious. For example is there a linguistic (or historical linguistic) explanation for the complicated behaviour of final visarga. " aH "+ (voiced consonent or " a " )becoming " o " seems (at least on the surface) somewhat counter-intuitive. Thanks, Harry Spier 371 Brickman Rd.
