Guest guest
Syntactic Sandhi = One huge compounded word made up of many words. ------------ Older schools of Sanskrit writers used this. Classical writers like KAlidAs - BANbhatt wrote in sentences without any space in between words. One huge compounded word. Example of Syntactic Sandhi (author unknown) viprAstattvamjAnanti viprah + tattvam + jAnanti = viprAstattvamjAnanti (Scholars / Specialists know the tattvas.) Example of Syntactic Sandhi (author unknown) tvAmabhivAdaye tvam + abhivAd = tvAmabhivAdaye (I greet you.) Modern writers eg. NavyanyAy school - used lesser compounds in the their writing. Lesser sentences with one large word. Semantic Sandhi ------------ Similar to Syntactic Sandhi. The conceptual idea is the same. Occurs in Roopaks (metaphors). Example of Semantic Sandhi (by Vachak Umaswati) utpAdvyaydhrauvyayuktamsat tpAd + vyay + Dhrauvya + Yuktam + Sat =tpAdvyaydhrauvyayuktamsat (Sat or existence consists of creation, destruction and permanance.) -- Manish HINDI GRANTH KARYALAY www.hindibooks.8m.com
