Guest guest
The citrasuutra, in the fortieth adhyaaya of the viSNudharmottara, says in shloka 10: anenai'va prakaareNa dvividhair varNakair yuktaaH kartavyaash citravapuSaa vividhaa maNibhuumayaH This seems to mean, 'Using this same method, jewelled floors of various kinds, beautified with paintings, should be made with two kinds of paints.' But the surrounding shlokas all talk about painting on kuDyam, a wall. Surely maNibhuumayaH here means something like 'a basis for the jewel-like beauty of the paintings'. maNi would be a metaphor in either case: I don't think that mosaic designs on walls or on floors are written about, and paintings were surely not made on floors?
