symbol of jat revolt in sadabad

The enclosed image is of a stone, which is now placed in the Devi

temple of the village Naogaon of Sadabad tahseel old Mathura dist and

now Hathras Dist. The Sadabad is well known in the history for Jat

revolt under the leadership of Gokual against last Mughal emperor

Aurangjeb in 16th centaury. The stone has been found under the heap

off mud (Khera) of village Naogaon. The place has a mud fort with a

Palace and the a Temple dedicated to Daoji (Balarama; the elder

brother of Lord Krishna). The stone was probably placed on the top of

entrance of the palace. There are many more stones laying buried.

Some of these are worshiped by the new wed bride on her first arrival

to the area. As per the history and local folklore the palace was

destroyed during Jat revolt in Sadabad in which almost 5000 Jats gave

their lives to defend their honor. The leader Gokula was arrested and

beheaded in Agra in front of Kotwali. The place is now known as

Fawwara; the fountain (as the fountain of blood of warriors was shed)

Gokula; a Haga Choudhary belonged to the Tilapat vill now known as

Tilu Chihattar near Bisawar. The Jats of the area who revolted

belonged to Mahaban, Karab (the vill of ex minister of UP Sardar

Singh), Tilpat, Bisawar, Uncha Gaon, Naogoan (The Vill of the author)

and Arotha. The Mahaban and the Unchagaon had a proper fort. Other

vill had the mud forts surrounded by a ditch (the design of mud fort

was same as Kumbher or Bharatpur though smaller in size). The area is

mainly inhabited by the Jadu Vanshi Haga Choudharies. The Mahaban,

Karab, Bisawar, Unchagaon, Naogaon are the kheras (forts) of the Haga

Choudharies. In the revolt all other gotras of the Jats incl

Sinsinwars, Chahars, Ghayars, Sogariyas, and others also

participated. After the death of the Gokula, leadership passed on to

the Rajaram, who raided Sikandara and carried out the cremation of

remains of great Mughal emperor Akabar. The Rajaram was also killed

and thereafter the leadership went to Churaman the founder of

Bharatpur state. The creation of Bharatpur State by the Jats was the

result of prolonged struggle, which was spread over more, then 100

yrs and in which thousands of Jats from Sadabad, Mathura, Agra,

Dholpur and Bhratpur gave their lives to save their honor.

The pic of the broken symbol of Jadu vanshi haga choudhary of famous

Jat revolt of sadabad and as found in vill Naogaon is posted here on

the site to pay the respect to the great Jats heroes who fought and

sacrificed their lives for the sake of their honour. The pic I am

sure will also remind the present days Jats about the bravery of

their forefathers. Though initially they lost but were winners in the

end. It is the recorded fact the Jats of the area never paid any tax

to any of the Mughal rulers. Aurenjeb actually forced the recovery of

the same, which became the main cause of the revolt. Though immideate

reason was the womanizing habits of the Mughal Subedar Abdul Unbi who

was killed for his deeds. Let me also remind the fist battle between

Kchvaha Rajputs and The jats was fought in Sadabad. To crush the

reviolt Mughal emeror had to move himself to Agra and had to call

the Rajah of Jaipur for the assistance. First two attacks were

repulsed with heavy causalities to the enemies. In the third

engagements the Jats were out numbered in the plains of Sadabad. The

Jats learned the lessons and shifted their area of operation to the

ravines of Chambal and the marshes of Bharatpur where they could

never be defeated.

The broken symbol has the Kadamba tree in center, which signifies

their rule over complete Braj Chetra (the tree is only found in

Braj), The two lions (not tigers) on either side of the kadamba tree

signifies the royality of their blood. Other signs are broken and not

yet been identified but what it appears that there are two Dwara Pala

on two sides and some symbol above the lions and the under the tree.

The experts are being consulted and the results will be posted on the

outcome. If any one has the knowledge of Archeology he is requested

to decipher the symbol.
