If mere textual evidence is to be considered, then given the number

of Sanskrit texts preserved in the south, one can claim that it is

the Vedic religion which dominates in TN!

Amman devotees would not accept that she is a "diety" of Shiva. There

are thousands of Amman temples in TN which do not house a Shiva idol.

For eg in the temple of my family deity "Draupadi Amman" in

Vengalathur (near Kaanchipuram), standing beside Amman are the idols

of Arjuna and Krishna, but no Shiva!
