If Smarthas are those "who accept only the authority of the Vedas",

then there are practically no smarthas left in the world; even

Sankaracharya composed so many stotras, one is left to wonder where

his "only authority" lies?

 

Authority or the absense of it is to be inferred from practices and

not a theoratical "ideal type" contruct.
