Guest guest
Two additions to the comments made by Professors Madhav M. Deshpande and Michael Witzel on this topic; An accented text of the A.s.taadhyaayii is printed at the end of: Dahiya, Yajanveer.1995. Paa.nini as a Linguist: Ideas and Patterns. Delhi: Eastern Book Linkers. This book is written in problematic English. The author's logic is frequently not clear. His remark on p. 213 ("I have, therefore, marked the accent in the original text of the AP [= A.s.taadhyaayii of Paa.nini]) may be interpreted to mean that the author reconstructed the accents (lost, in his view, by Pata;njali's time). However, the remark does not rule out the possibility that he (Dahiya) borrowed the marks from some other printed or manuscript source known to him. A comparison with the sources mentioned by Deshpande and Witzel for an accented text of the A.s.taadhyaayii is called for. Mnemonic ;sr:nkhalaas are found also at the end of the adhyaayas of the Nigha.n.tu and the Nirukta. ashok aklujkar

Is there a printed edition of the same? Is there a laghu and a brhad paaTha of these sutras? Finally, which is considered the oldest bhasya on the chhandasutras? Halayudha? In his works, Swami Dayananda Sarasvati recommends the study of 'pingalacharyakrta channdasutras together with the bhashya'. Did he mean an autocommentary? Does any exist? (However, upon researching his private correspondence with various other Pandits, he seems to quote Halayudha). Thanks in advance, Vishal
