Guest guest
I recall reading somewhere that the Tevaram was being burnt in the temples by priests opposed to Tamil prayer and that Rajaraja Cholan rescued Tevaram from the fire. I would like to know a) if this story is true and b) if true, where can I get the full story c) when did this story first appear in India. Thanks for any help. Sincerely, Sujata

It never happened anywhere. Never was the Tevaram burnt by anybody. According to ther story Tevaram were resuscitated by Rajaraja from old worm-eaten manuscripts. Even this is a story. Never the priests burn any text that too the Tevarams. You know- there were two priests in the temple of Tiruththavaththurai (Lalgudi)near Trichy who recited the Tevarams of that temple as mentioned in the inscriptions of the temple. The inscriptions belong tothe 12th century. These type of activities were regularly done by medieval christians and Moslems in Europe, Asia and South America which we read i History. But that never was our practice. I think it is systematic praoipaganda resorted to by a section of preasent day so called ewnthousiasts to vilify one particular community.
