Guest guest Posted March 29, 2003 Report Share Posted March 29, 2003 Hans Rausing Endangered Languages Project Funded by the Lisbet Rausing Charitable Fund, the Hans Rausing Endangered Languages Project comprises three elements: a documentation programme, which awards grants annually through an international panel for research and documentation worldwide, an archive programme, and an academic programme. The project is based at London University's School of Oriental and African Studies. Endangered Languages Research Grants For information about research grants to study or document endangered languages, contact Jacqueline Arrol-Barker at j.arrolbarker, or visit our web site at www.eldp.soas.ac.uk Endangered Languages Academic Programme NEW MA PROGRAMME IN LANGUAGE DOCUMENTATION AND DESCRIPTION Applications are invited for a new one-year MA programme in Language Documentation and Description. Commencing in September 2003 and run by the SOAS Linguistics Department, the programme comprises four core courses: 'Issues in language documentation and description', 'Principles of linguistics analysis', 'Technology and language documentation' and 'Applied language documentation and description', plus two options and a dissertation. Students wishing to enrol for the programme can visit the SOAS Languages and Cultures website, contact Ms Lisa McSweeney at lm2 or ring the Faculty office at (0)20 7898 4044. PHD IN FIELD LINGUISTICS The Department is also offering a PhD programme in field linguistics to train a new generation of language researchers. Students or supervisors who would like to know more about this programme should contact SOAS Linguistics. SEMINARS AND TRAINING COURSES As well as staging seminars and workshops, SOAS Linguistics will be providing intensive training courses to assist the study and documentation of endangered languages. Details will be announced early next year. DOCTORAL AND POST-DOCTORAL RESEARCH FELLOWSHIPS Applications will be invited next year for two doctoral research bursaries and two postdoctoral fellowships at SOAS, to commence in September 2003. These posts, designed to encourage research into endangered languages, are being funded under the Hans Rausing Endangered Languages Project.
