BRIEF DESCRIPTION: After the tragic event of September 11, there is a

renewed worldwide interest for learning about other religions. The

Philosophy of Karma in Jainism will provide a rational and detailed

explanation to the apparently inexplicable phenomena of why people differ in

happiness and misery, of inequalities in mental and physical attainments, in

violent and peaceful behavior and of the existence of different species of

living beings. The World Religions workshop will provide an appreciation for

the basic beliefs of major religions including Buddhism, Christianity,

Hinduism, Islam, Jainism and Judaism; and oriental philosophies of

Confucianism, Shinto and Taoism. The program is co-sponsored by several

interfaith organizations. You can sign up for either one or both days. The

workshops will be held in a comfortable high-tech seminar room setting and

will provide opportunity to ask questions and participate in discussions.

PROGRAM INSTRUCTOR:

Pravin K. Shah, Chairperson, JAINA Education Committee, North Carolina, has a

deep understanding of the philosophy of Jainism as well as other major

religions. He has conducted several workshops and conferences on Jainism and

World Religions; and made presentations in many universities and interfaith

programs. He is an author and recently led a team effort to publish a Jain

Education and Literature CD consisting of over 10,000 pages of material.

Prof. Robert Magliola, an author and a scholar of several religions will join

the discussion sessions.

NUMBER OF SEATS: 50 for each workshop.

REGISTRATION AND PROGRAM FEE:

Pre-registration is required. The directions will be sent with the
