Parvati, Goddess of Love (Mapin). Roughly in this line, I'm looking for a symbol of Parvati. Some friends have named their daughter "Uma" and the father wants to get a tatoo to indicate the name. He asked if their was some special sign, like an "Om" which specifically designates Parvati. Any replies would be appreciated! best, Tim Cahill

Failing the discovery of such a concise symbol, he could go all-out and get a tattoo of the entire Parvatigita. What a touching gesture that would be. Unless he is planning to have more children. No lettering, no nothing. I have some more suggestions. Let his be the first one. Lakshmi Srinivas
Guest guest
Perhaps he could simply have 'umA' tattooed in Nagari script? It would only be 2 characters, after all, and might look good e.g. in the middle of a lotus. There are certainly yantras sacred to Parvati/Uma, but they might be complicated (and painful) to have done! Perhaps someone on the list knows whether tattooing with yantras is something that happens among Hindus? It is certainly known among Southeast Asian Buddhists.
