Sastri is the graduate degree awarded by Sampurnananda Sanskrit Vishwavidyayalay, Varanasi to graduates in Sanskrit studies. Acarya is the post graduate degreee awarded by Sampurnananda Sanskrit Vishwavidyayalay, Varanasi. Sastri is recognised by the Government of India as he equivalent of BA, while Acarya is recognised by the Government of India as he equivalent of MA. Post graduate studies in Darsana, Nyaya, etc. result in the degrees of Darsanacarya and Nyayacarya. So it is very likely that M/s. Jagaddhara Zadoo and Madhusudana Kaula are graduates in Sanskrit and hence earned the degree of Sastri. Interestingly, while formal examinations are held for granting the degrees of Sastri and Acarya, there is no such system for the awarding of the titles of Mahopadhyaya and Mahamahopadhyaya. I would like to know the criteria for getting the titles of Mahopadhyaya and Mahamahopadhyaya.
