Rudra as Siva in the Vedas

Dear list members,

J. Gonda in Medieval Religious Literature chapter 10 says.

"Already in the Veda the god Rudra . . . was called Siva."

I'm assuming he is refering to the epithet of Rudra in the Satarudriya.

But other than this reference in the Satarudriya is Rudra called Siva

anywhere else in the Vedas proper? In the Brahmanas or later Vedic

literature?

Many thanks,

Dear Mr. Spier,

In the Rudra Prasna in the Taittiriya Samhita of Krishna Yajur Veda,

one of the stanzas has the salutations:

namah Shivaaya and namo rudraaya.

Hope this helps.

> dear sir,

the name rudra is available in chapter 16th of yajurveda, the mantra

is as follows:-

"Om yaa te rudra shivaa tanu raghoraa papakaashinee, tayaa nastanva

shamtamayaa giri shamtaabhichaakasheehee. The same mantra is available

in many other braches of both krashna and shukla vedas like taitariya

samhita,maitrayaniya samhita,kaanva samhita,kapishthal and kathaka

samhitas;

This indicateds that the rudra[fearfull] and shiva[kalyankarak]both

are nothing but the two situations of single personality. In my

opinion, all the working were appriciated, indicating that working

people are the back on of any nation
