Guest guest
Apologies, Somehow I hit the send key before my posting was finished. The complete positng is as follows: Dear list members, Dr. Kocchars question about the two forms of Ganesh images has got me wondering if this might be part of a larger pattern where you have two forms of an item of worship. Where one form is powerful but somewhat dangerous and needs to be propitiated in a very specific manner, and another form slightly different is a more mild benign form of the same object of worship. Years ago I showed the officiating preast of a Devi temple a copper plate of a Shri Chakra that I had and asked him the proper way of doing puja to it. He looked at it and told me that the Shri Chakra on the copper plate was deliberately drawn a little incorrectly so that I could do any simple puja to it, but that if it had been drawn completely correct I would need to do a specific puja to it and do it every day or instead of positive fruits there would be negative fruits. He also showed me a silver Shri Chakra necklace he wore and said that it also had a deliberate imperfection so that he didn't need to do daily puja to it, but the Shri Chakra in his temple was drawn completely correct and they needed to do the proscribed puja to it daily. Do any of the list members know of any other cases of this pattern. I.e.where for an object of worship you have two closely resembling images, where one is potent but somewhat dangerous "like a two edged sword" and the second is slightly different and is considered milder but not dangerous.
