Dear list members,

After several years of trying I've finally been given an explanation of how

double candrabindu over virama is to be chanted in Taittiriya chanting.

I've been told that its to be chanted the same as gumkAra but with the

initial "g" doubled. I.e. as " gguM ". I've also been told that this is

explained in the vyasaSiksa .

Looking at the edition of the Taittiriya samhita by Sastri and Rangacharya

its still not apparent what the rule is for when you use single candrabindu

and when double chandrabindu.

Looking at vol. 3 pages 353-357 you have (M=candrabindu, MM=double

candrabindu)

pg. 353 ...kAmaMM svena

pg. 354 ...yaviSThaMM svena

pg. 355 ...yaviSThaMM svena

...yuSmantaM svena

pg. 356 ...jAtavedasaM svena

pg. 357 ...rukmantaMM svena

...tejasvantaM svena

pg. 358 ...sAhantyaM svena

The case on page 357 is particularly perplexing. I.e rukmantaMM svena but

tejasvantaM svena.

Thanks,

Harry
