Guest guest Posted October 10, 2003 Report Share Posted October 10, 2003 I wonder if there is other writing on dharma similar to that in the chapter in Halfbass's _India and Europe_ wherein he gives a history of the concept, saying among other things (if I understand him, and remember aright) that the vedic rta was an entirely anthropocentric concept, not a 'natural law', and that it is quite different from the later dharma, to which it is often said to be a mere forerunner, which is the argument of other writings on dharma which I have found. I also wonder what other books are interested in the idea I find in Doniger's _Origins of Evil_, of the sramana as representing a kind of virtue-as-anti- dharma in antithesis to the ritual, more or less anethical vedic dharma, and uneasily coopted into 'counterreformational' Brahmanism.
