Guest guest
Dear List, In his book written in Kannada, Dr I M Muttanna cites the following statement of Friedrich von Schlegel (1772-1829): "The Indian grammar offers the best example of perfect simplicity, combined with the richest artistic construction." and says that on the model of Panini, Friedrich von Schlegel wrote a Sanskrit-German grammar. (In Kannada, his original statement is: " PANiniya vyAkaraNavannanusarisi SaMskRta-German vyAkaraNavannu baredanu".) I am unable to understand Dr Muttanna's expression "Sanskrit-German grammar". Is it the German grammar written in German in the sUtra style of Panini ? Thanks. Kind regards. Narayan Prasad
