Guest guest
Dear members I am now reading Sangiitaratnaakara. In that text, there are some descriptions about paaTa(a kind of sound of drum). Sangiitaratnaakara says that a kind of paaTa classified into five are produced from iizvara's paJcamukha named sadyaajaata, vaamadeva, aghoora, tatpuruSa and iizaana. This description seems to be unique. I can not find any similar description in other Sangiitazaastra. I don't know iizvara's paJcamukha except the simple description in zabdakalpadamaru(a famous Sanskrit Encyclopedia), and can not access the text cited in zabdakalpadamaru. If anyone know about iizvara's paJcamukha named sadyaajaata, vaamadeva, aghoora, tatpuruSa and iizaana, please give me some information about it. Best Regards Yasuhiro Okazaki
Guest guest
The only relation between paaTa and the Pa~Ncamukha that I've come across in a relatively later text (when compared to the ratnAkara) that describes the Pa~Ncamukha vAdhyam - (a ritualistic drum with five faces each of which originated from a face of Shiva) tradition at the tiruvarur temple. There is a mention of svasti paaTa which is said to have been enunciated by Nandi. However I have'nt been able to find any details on what exactly this svasti paaTA means and if there are any other musical or other religious or literary references to this or any other paaTas of the Pa~Ncamukha vAdhyam.
