Guest guest
Lanchhans and Totems I recently read a book about Maratha clancs where the writer has used the word Lanchhan for totems. I myself have found some relations between Lanchhans of Jain Teerthankars and Vansh/clans of Kshatriyas. The Lanchhan of Lord Parshwanatha is Naag and Parshwanatha was closely related with Nagvansha of Kshatriyas. The Lanchhan of Lord Chandraprabhu is Chandra and he was a Somvanshi. The Lanchhan of Lord Neminath is Shankh and he was a Yadav. The Lancchana of Lord Mahavir is Lion and and it was totem of Licchavis. The Lanchhan of Lord Rishabh is Vrishabh and he taught human being Krishikarma (agriculture), where Vrishabha (Bull) was a necessity. The Kshatriyas and Agriculturists are the same people and the word Kshatriya is made from the Prakrit word Khattiya. It should be noted that Rishabh, Balram, Bali, Shivaji and many other famous Kshatriyas were directly involved in agriculture. The totems of many Kshatriya clans are related with ancient Jain kings. Mores are decendents of Mouryans. There totem is feather of peacock. Mourayans were originally a community named Mayurposag (Peacock tamer) which was follower of Jainism. This needs more research. I would like to know your comments on this subject. Mahavir Sanglikar
