Guest guest
Griffith's translation of the Rig Veda Rig Veda RV 10.61.5-9 refers to the Prajapati story which has been used by B. G. Tilak to write "Orion." These verses have great astronomical signifcance for they refer to a time when the Vernal Equinox was in Orion. An Indus vally seal has been found depecting the mythical decapitation of Orion. The eminent Indologists Prof Ralph T. H. Griffith in his (1896) translation has left these verses untranslated. He dismisses them with the following footnote # 5 (p. 574)" "I pass over stanzas 5-9, which contain an ancient legend , probably the germ of the later story of Brahama or Prajapati and his daughter, concerning two deities or powers of nature, male and female. See Appendix." Appendix I (Griffith does not call it Appendix I, btw) on p. 653, contains these verses in the original.
