Guest guest
I see that there are two meanings of the term nirvacana - one as silent and the other as to define or describe or explain. Also anirvacanIya as used in vedantic parlance seems to mean indescribable. Then the term nirvacana -taken as without vacana ie beyond words which would again come to mean more or less the same as the word anirvacana. I would appreciate if someone would tell me if there is a usage such as 'nirvacanIya -" ie the validity or lack of validity of a usage. Also would there be a grammatical possibility of a double negative occurring here. Thanks Vidya Jayaraman
Guest guest
If you are able to extract the meaning of "anuttama" as "the best", I think you will find the answer to your query youresef. Such meaning can be obtained if we consider "anuttama" as a bahuvriihi samaasa. Now let me try to extract the actual meaning of "nirvacana" in order to compromise both the meanings (i.e. include even the negative meaning indicated by the prefix "nis/nir"). It does not mean "explanation" in a simple way. It appears to mean "so much exhaustive explanation that nothing else is left out to explain further". The term "anirvacanIya" then would mean "that for which however exhaustive explanation one may give, there is a possibilty that further explanation will be required" and hence the meaning "indescribable". I do not know whether my explanation is convincing to you. Regards.
