Guest guest
Dear Friends, I am sure whether this is the right forum for this question, anyhow, here it goes: can anyone tell me, where do we find the first recorded use of the name Punjab, and what was the region known as before that time? Guest guest
The word Punjab was first used in "Tarikh-e-Sher Shah" of 1580. It probably came into common use during the Mughal period. The word is apparently not used in the Adi Granth collection. Guru Gobind Singh calls the region Madra Desh in his autobiography, he did not use the term Punjab. Takka is an older name for a part of Punjab. The region of Gandhara included a part of Punjab.
