Guest guest
Drinking water is older than any 'tradition'.It was (still is)common to store water in earthen pitchers.Clay absorbs bacteris.Sediments settle at the bottom. You can then pour the upper layers (decant)upper layers into abrass lota. Guest guest
Mahavir has asked whether there exists the practice of using filtered water in communities other than jains. In the south indian tradition it does not seem to be obligatory and does not exist in the traditional rural miliesu. But I have heard it said that in the MahAbhArata there is a half-verse enjoining the use of filtered water as well as walking carefully after examining well the ground: vastrapUtaM jalaM pibet dRiShTipUtaM padaM nyaset .
