Guest guest
Before going to the first instance where Sri has been used one should know that Sri is the short form of Sriman or Srimathi. Only in the 20th century Sri was used for a man and Smt. (for Srimathi) for a woman. During the 19th century the Sri was prefixed by brahma (as brahmasri) for a Brahmin and rajasri for a Kshatriya. While Srimathi is used only for a married woman with a husband living, the tile matusri was being used for a widow. yaksh12000 <yaksh12000 wrote: What are the earliest instances of adding 'Sri' to a noun (e.g., Sri Rama, Sri Lakshmi, Sri Nagar)?
