Notes: 1. There was a spider living in AnaikkA where the Lord is under the white nAval (jambolana) tree. The intense heat of sun used fall on the Lord's shivalingam. This spider made a web above the Lord making a shade that cut down the sun rays. There was an elephant that used to worship the Lord offering water and flower. That did not realize the service of the spider. It thought of the web as an annoyance on the Lord and removed it with its trunk. Spider got agitated by the disturbance to its service and bit the elephant. In the process both the elephant and spider died. Elephant having done shivapUja got liberated there itself. Spider even though couldn't do the pUja with its limited capabilities, did the shivapuNya of making the shade. So it was born as the great kOccheNgaT chOzar of sangam times. He constructed very many grand abodes (shades!!) for the Lord (which are all such a way that elephant cannot enter!). The story of this chOzar saint is available at http://www.shaivam.org/nakoochc.html 2. The story of kOcceNgaT chOzar insists that whatever be the restrictions one has, one has to do whatever possible shivapuNya (service to Lord shiva). That would definitely bring great fruit and could be a seed for the ultimate gift later. That is why thirumUlar insists "epparicAyinum Eththumin. EththinAl apparicu Ican aruL peRalAmE" (Worship in whatever way. If worshipped, that will be the way to receive the grace of God.) 3. ulan^thu - destroyed; avaN - there; cONADu - cOlaikaL mikka n^ADu - fertile country. <*> / <*> <*> Your
