Guest guest
Indra is not considered an Avatara of Vishnu. Ramayana and the Bhagwad Purana have instances of Rama and Krishna interacting with Indra. Krishna is supposed to have lifted the Govardhan mountain to save the people from incessant rains, brought about by Indra.

Lord Rama came before Mahabharata.

I am not sure who Gurunay is, I have heard about Lord Datta and I am not sure about him either. I had seen Lord Datta being worshiped when I was in Pune, but that is it.

Guest guest
Narada is supposed to be the son of Brahma.
I think Indra is the son of Rishi Kashyap.
In Mahabharata, Arjuna was the son of Indra. In Ramayana, Rama's great grandfather, Raghu, had fought and won a war against Indra. Rama was given a chariot by Indra and a set of weapons to fight Ravana.

Dear Jai,
These are stories and legends which have been handed out - generations after generations? Who was Narada? Who was Indra? Were they just fragments of imagination? Maybe, maybe not.
There is a difference between Mythology and Spirituality. Practicing spirituality does not necessarily mean delving in Mythology. Stories glorify and make the hero come out as Supreme. But then if we lift the veil of mythology, we try to see the person as it is.
What is the significance of the three heads of Datta or the four hands of Vishnu? Narada is supposed to have written the Narada Bhakti Sutras. Wouldnt reading and understanding those texts give us a broader insight into the personalities?
I believe Ramayana came before Mahabharata, that is because I have heard so. As far as proof is concerened - sorry, I do not have any.
Why did Indra cause rain? I have no idea what Indra was thinking then. But then, why does it rain? Maybe there was meteorological phenomenom that occured, causing Krishna to lead people into a shelter below the mountains. That itself could have caused poets to write that Krishna lifted the Govardhan mountain on one finger.
