Guest guest Posted April 11, 2001 Report Share Posted April 11, 2001 Lord Krishna REQUESTED the men and women of brindvan to worship Govardhana, instead of worshipping Lord Indra,the king of heaven, who is in charge of the rains. Krishna convinced the people that Govardhana Hill was supplying so many necessities and should be worshipped instead.<br><br>when the people of brindavan started worshipping the Govardhana Hill, Lord Indra became angry that he was not worshipped. He sent torrents of rain upon Vrindavana. The residents approached Krishna for help. Krishna then lifted Govardhana Hill with his little finger and held it over the residents of Vrindavana like an umbrella.<br><br>when lord indra saw lord krishna lifting the govardana hill with his little finger, lord indra was convinced with that lord krishna was none other than lord vishnu himself - indra bowed down to lord krishna and apologized for his vain and arrogant behaviour. <br><br>in many iskcon temples, govrdana pooja is celebrated during janmasthmi -in india, august heralds the monsoon season and one will see torrential rains and flodding in partsof noth india. <br><br>in south india, this event is celebrated in the month of january as bhogi pongal -a three day festival- where ,on the first day , prayers are offered to rain god indra for a good harvest. <br><br>to the govardana dhari murali krishna we offer our salutations- <br><br>love and blessings, maa Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
