It has been defined as the time it takes to fully inflate the lungs.<br><br>The matra of a mantra could be seen as the meter and rhythm of the mantra. Or, perhaps, a case could be made for matra referring to the number of times the mantra is repeated on the inhale. Of course, the mantra should be repeated the same number of times on the exhale.<br><br>Regarding the fifth matra of AUM, I only aware of 4 matras of AUM: A where there is a vibration in the chest or anahata chakra; U where the vibration is in the throat or vishuddha chakra; M where the vibration is in the lips or ajna chakra; and the short period silence after each repetition of AUM and before the next repetition.<br><br>Om namah Sivaya<br><br>Omprem Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
