Once there was a asura called Shambar. He

terrorized all the Gods in the heaven. The Gods approached

Dasharatha for help. Dasharatha agreed to help. Decked for

war, Dasharatha left for the heavens. A fierce battle

followed. With the Gandharva arrow, the king killed off the

asura's army and then with his Shabdabhedi arrow, he

killed the asura. The Gods were relieved.
After the

war Dasharatha returned home. He had been wounded in

the war. Kaikeyi knew AstraSanjeevini, the art of

repairing wounds. She tried that on Dasharatha who was

instantly cured. He asked to ask for a boon. Kaikeyi asked

Manthara, "The king told me to ask for a boon. What should

I say". The cunning Manthara said "Queen, tell him

that you do not need a boon now but will ask for it if

need be." The queen said that to the king, and the

king agreed not know what the future had in store for

him.
Once the king had a blister on his kinger. The blister

started turning septic. The doctors told the king to have

someone kiss him on that blister. The blister had pus on

it and smelled bad. No one was willing to go near

it. Kaikeyi agreed. As soon the queen touched the

blister with her lips, it vanished. The king pleased

agreed to grant another boon to Kaikeyi. Kaikeyi said

she would ask for it when she needed it. The king

promised to give her the two boons whenever she wanted.
