Guest guest
Destiny

Destiny is that part of our life when we have no control over life situations and willful action is that portion of our life that we have control over.

For example

Destined Action – I parked my car in the car park and picked up a parking ticket. In the evening when I returned from office I saw that my car is in bad condition as if some other person while parking dashed my car. But now I don’t have anybody in sight to know who was the culprit. Here we see that although we have taken great care but we had no control over this event.

Willful Action – I parked my car on the roadside and did not bother to take a ticket. In the evening when I returned I saw that the traffic cop has put the fine bill on my car window and in addition to that my car has suffered a damaged too. Here we see that such situation would have been avoided but called upon willfully.

Many events in our lives are destined beginning with the family that we are born into, that we have no control over. We are born into families where we have the highest give and take account to settle with each of the members. All destined events are the results of sins and merits acquired in past births. So when an event is destined, be it an accident, a serious illness or treacherous relation there is simply no escape. What is written simply has to happen.

But good news is that there is one way out and that is when we use our willful action to do spiritual practice (sadhana). This is the only time the impact of destiny can be greatly minimized.

Once my friend had a very bad relationship with her in-laws and husband. Every day she was suffering on account of injustice made by them. But when she started undertaking spiritual practice to her surprise slowly her relation improved and now the entire family is on the path of spirituality and happy.

So you see now how spirituality can protect us from being bully bounced by destiny.

If we have mild destiny – we need to do moderate spiritual practice.
If we have moderate destiny – we need to do intense spiritual practice.
If we have severe destiny - only the Grace of a Guru can save us.

With love
Sanatan
glenn-sampada
Guest guest
I believe controling your destiny is very much related with understanding that life is our field of experiencing and nothing is bad but they are to help us understand what is good. God sends us angels in the shape of trouble makers sometimes:)

look at love
how it tangles
with the one fallen in love

look at spirit
how it fuses with earth
giving it new life

why are you so busy
with this or that or good or bad
pay attention to how things blend

why talk about all
the known and the unknown
see how the unknown merges into the known

why think seperately
of this life and the next
when one is born from the last

look at your heart and tongue
one feels but deaf and dumb
the other speaks in words and signs

look at water and fire
earth and wind
enemies and friends all at once

the wolf and the lamb
the lion and the deer
far away yet together

look at the unity of this
spring and winter
manifested in the equinox

you too must mingle my friends
since the earth and the sky
are mingled just for you and me

be like sugarcane
sweet yet silent
don't get mixed up with bitter words

my beloved grows
right out of my own heart
how much more union can there be
