One day his courtiers approached him – “King, Rama is a brave and handsome prnce. Single handed, he drove away Maricha. We will be very happy, if Rama becomes the king.” Even though he was very happy, Dasharatha pretended to be angry and said “Why do you want to drive me away. What have I done? I have looked after my subjects like my own children.” Seeing the people sad, the king “I was just having some fun. I would be very happy to crown Rama myself. Let me consult with the head priest, Vashistha and see what should be done. I will start making the necessary preparations. It is my wish that I start the process today and Rama is crowned tomorrow. Sumantra, fetch Rama.” People were very happy.<br>When Rama came, he bowed down before his father. Dashratha hugged Rama and made him sit on the throne and started telling him about kingly duties. “You are the eldest son of my first queen. Take controls of Ayodhya from me. Learn how to rule a kingdom and rule it. Rule so that people will praise you. Never raise an eye on someone else’s woman. Look after your subjects like your children. Never be jealous of any one. Never hurt anyone. Never be greedy. Never kill anyone if the person has not done any harm. Meditate regularly. Never forget to pray to the Gods. Be kind to all.
