Guest guest
This is my first time here, and thank you for the kind invitation. Here is a question - Are there any spiritual answers to deep personal psychological problems such as, say, depression or anorexia? I am a professional writer who has ceased being able to write. How can I end this block?
Guest guest
Respected oldcusser,
i am a spiritual practicioner with bipolar II disorder. my personal belief is that psychological disorders are of an organic nature, meaning to say there is a chemical inbalance within the brain that manifests symptions such as depression, anorexia, and, for me, my bipolar difficulties. This is no different then waking up to find that you have diabetes, or epilepsy. No one would walk up to you and demand that you make your pancreas function, or to simply stop having seizures. That is childish. Instead, we see medical practicioners, and follow their advice such as take meds, make life style changes, or therapy.

Where spirituality comes in for me allows me to discuss my difficulties to God, where i find strength to continue fighting against my illness and pray for mercy to have it lifted from me if that is indeed the will of God.

i have found that my illness sometimes evokes changes in my personality, ie. i one week have all the logic of the Star Trek Mr. Spock and the next week, the cynical nature of Hawkeye Pierce from MASH. But these are just faces, masks if you will. They are not me. i also discovered that there are triggers to these changes and do my best to avoid them. The spiritual me is the real me, balanced, serene, and open. i just have to continue to dig till i find her again.

Perhaps there are triggers in your life that manifests the problems you are facing now. i wish you peace and strength. Dont give up.

om tat sat

>:*)

Guest guest
Ken:

I have been diagnosed with severe long-term depression and was on anti-depressants for the better part of six years. When I started to meditate and pray and ask God for help and guidance, I got it. I think partially because God did help me through it, but I also think it was because my soul was so confused for most of my life. I never felt at home or content, and therefore depressed.

Of course, like everything else, it's an individual situation with an individual reason. Ask God for assistance and you will find your way back home.

Om Shanti,
Erica
Guest guest
thank you, erica, and I am delighted you are well once more. I do pray regularly (for myself and others) but so far it has not solved my problem. I will keep trying. My wise young daughter suggests that I pray because I fear God and that instead I must love Him. I find it very difficult to love Him. It is like being ordered to love a certain person when I'm pretty scared of that person!
Guest guest
As a wise person (in this club!) once told me, if you go to God as a child would go to a parent, God will be there to help and guide you.

The best of luck to you.

Om Shanti,
Erica
