Guest guest
Thank you to all who have posted prayers and important sites through which we can all provide assistance. It is amazing how such disasters can bring people together. Pity a good cause doesn't have the the same power.

Thanks Omprem for talking about the natural, spiritual laws that govern our lives. I use these to stabilize myself when faced with churning emotions, experiencing such events in a very personalized manner. Perhaps it's a memory from the past. I'm not sure.

This is an outrage against the entire family of humanity, reaching across man-made geographical boundaries. While a larger part of the world has been living with attrocities with the terrorism in Tibet, Kashmir, Middle east, Ireland, ethnic cleansing as in African countries, Yuguslavia, this, however, is a first in USA's backyard.

It is also the most dramatic of all, a high tech horror film that morphed into reality.

As I pray for all, I also pray that this is taken as a wake-up call to genuinely address this horror in our world and hold people responsible for such unacceptable behavior, no matter what their cause may be. And further to sincerely investigate what we need to do to remove the cause of the birth of such asuras (monsters).

Bhagawad Gita was delivered in the midst of a war. A horrendous war, if one reads the detailed accounts. Swami Viditatmananda says in an exposition of the Gita, that the teaching of the Gita opens with the assurance that there is no cause for grief. While it is in the context of Arjuna's inability to fight the war, nevertheless, this conflict stems from the sense of inadequacy that every human being feels. The inability of a person to face a particular situation arises from his or her lack of understanding of the fact that every topical problem arises from the fundamanental problem of the inadequate self. Once one realizes that one is a complete and full being within one's own self, this knowledge (Brahmavidya) alone will eliminate that sense of inadequacy.

Situations such as these provide the greatest challenge to sadhaks. Anger and outrage are natural reactions, but what should be our response? Horrendous actions have to be punished, but how difficult it is to remember that knowledge about our True Selves at these times of anguish. Do sadhaks have a responsibility to participate and lead the way to responsibly address such situations or do they stand back and say it is someone else's job to take care .. we consider all this maya!

Of the few stories that have shaped my spiritual journey the following is one of my favorites.

A Samurai warrior was fighting a battle with an enemy. After a good fight he had him on the ground and was getting ready for the final swing to knock him out when the enemy spat on his face.

The warrior stopped, and stepped back. Slowly he walked away and said he will come back the next day to finish the fight. He will not fight under the influence of anger.

He did, when he was calm, and completed his duty to defeat the enemy.

Where are the Asuras (monsters) anyway .. within ourselves; our collective selves?

MAA Durga came to destroy Mahish Asur .. where is she now??

seeking ....

UMA
