Guest guest Posted October 13, 2001 Report Share Posted October 13, 2001 Blessed Self, Baburoy

Thanks for the informative glossary of karma terms.

Spiritweb left out a very important aspect of karma: namely, agami or vartamana karma, which is the karma that is acquired during the present life-time. The Spiritweb definition of sanchita karma is correct but agami karma is a special kind of sanchita karma.

All entities have three qualities: tamas or the tendency to inaction, rajas or the tendency to action, sattva or the tendency to spiritual joy and knowledge. These qualities have karmic consequences:

Sattvic karma is action prescribed by tradition and performed without attachment;

Rajas karma is action performed out of ego-sense in order to experience pleasure;

tamas karma is action performed by a deluded, confused person who has no concern for the moral and spiritual consequences of the action.

Tamas karma is prevalent in both the East and West as a result of the events leading up to Sept. 11 and its aftermath.

The Puranas and Srimad bhagavata have lots of information on specific karmas and their consequences.

omprem Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
