Guest guest
My sweet Uma Didi, it is so inspiring to read your words specially on my birthday.Thank you, kindly.

Didi, you have a way with words. I wish I had your 'felicity with words.' So, you are telling me that 'experience' is the key. What kind of experience? Spiritual or worldly? In my young 19 years, life has so far been 'kind' to me. I have not had any real disappointments except when I do not get the grades I thought I deserved.

But, I do feel this 'yearning' in me. You are talking about 'free will.' There is no such thing as 'free will'. I cannot even choose what I eat for lunch. Being a Hindu, I am forbidden to eat 'chicken'. I am forced to eat only vegetarian preperations. My mind is so conditioned that I am told I am committing sin if I eat 'meat' I will land up in hell. But, I am going through hell right now being denied my right to choose what I want to eat.

Also, you are not aware of the pressures I am facing. You are talking about 'karma yoga' and say do not be attached to the fruits of your actions. But, in real life this is not so. I may study very hard for an exam but if i do not get high marks then I am doomed. I will not get admission in the best college nor will i get to select the courses I want. Already, I have failed in my IIT entrance exams. (this is the prestigeous Bombay Indian Institute of technolgy for engineering). So, you see didi, my predicament. In India, everything is becoming very competitive. My mum says I will never get a good 'boy' if I am not 'qualified.' Sometimes, I want to escape all this and join a convent.

Didi, I fully appreciate what you are saying, though. But, in real life everything is different. We all cannot be yogis. We are trained to be bhogis also. (enjoyers)

Sweet didi, thanks so much for your detailed reply. I fel so honored.

regard, Salaam!!!! Guest guest
Dear Salaam,

Glad to know that you are a vegetarian -- but please do not accuse Hinduism of forcing you to shun chicken -- i know for sure that atleast 10% of all Hindus - ie 100,000,000 eat meat - and are not considered sinners among Hindus - perhaps you are confusing between foods with different gunas - satwa, rajas and tamas
Guest guest
Umesh bhaiyya, I am terribly sorry. I am a saraswat brahmin and we are prohibited from eating or touchng meat. Hindus belonging to 'non-brahmin' castes can eat meat. That is the whole issue here. Meat is described as a 'rajasic' padarth. IN the kshatriya caste (the warrior caste) they were encouraged to eat 'meat' because they needed the 'strength and stamina' to fight in the battles. So, you see. Not only I am a Hindu . I am a brahmin hindu which makes it all the more tough.

BTW I saw your profile. Why are you settling for 'an arranged marriage.?' Show some courage , my bhaiyya ! What is Jaipur school? Some music gharana?

Salaam!!!!!!!
