Guest guest
Boy ketu entered the Ashram of the great sage, who was known for his wisdom and many kings and nobles sent their children to learn from the saint.

The saint was taking class of a group of children of kings, ministers and brahmins. Ketu was so fond of studying, he forced his way into the class and begged the hermit to make him his disciple.

The saint asked him," I will be happy to accept you as my disciple. Please tell me the name of your Mother and Father.

The boy was hesitant," Oh my Mother's name is Padma and i do not know about my father i have to ask my Mother about it.

There was a roar in the class. Boys laughed with proud and son of Rajapurohit stood and said, Hey you, How dare you even think of becoming disciple of the Saint without even knowing about your father? Cant you see among the disciples the children of royal families ? This is not for people like you."

the saint told the boy," My dear go back and ask your mother about your father. If you feel yourself fit to be my disciple, then come tomorrow"

The boy went back and returned the next day and offered his pranamas to the saint. The saint asked the boy," So dear could your mother tell you about your parantage?"

The boy without any remorse said," Yes sir my mother told me that she was a prostitue in her young age and had served many masters from the kingdom. she can not remember whose son I am ?

there was an uproar in the class with the royal children crying and saying," Throw this bastard out of the Ashram...he is not fit for Vedic knowledge".

the saint asked," Are you not afraid or shameful of telling such bad things about you?"

The boy strongly said," Sir if i wish to learn about the Truth i must start with the truth. and i cant hide my truth from my guru"

The hermit had tears in her eyes. He stood up from his seat and embraced little boy and said," You are a real Brahmin....Brahmin is not a son of a Brahmin, but the one who is not fearful and who is truthful and real seeker of Brahma (God). I accept you as my disciple and give you the name Satyakaam (one who is truthful).

satyakaam became a great saint later on...unfortunately all the books written by him were destroyed by Muslim invaders at Nalanda.

Hari aum
Guest guest
Welcome back silentsoulji, and I specially welcome the stories you like to share. Personal and cultural.

Parables has has been used in all traditions to help simplify difficult concepts so that people can identify with them easier. In "Hinduism the Panchatantras are such a collection of stories designed to teach how to live on the basis of the values inherent in the faith.

"Panchatantra, is a collection of five volumes of stories written by a teacher to help instruct the different aspects of kinghood for princes. The five volumes together serve as a manual for a prospective king, to help him in deciding how to rule, how to choose his fellow friends, fellow ministers, how to conduct himself in daily life etc. The collection of stories in Pancha Tantra are a real treat for parents to help them in guiding them towards values in human life. Every story in Pancha Tantra is accompanied by a moral."

I would love for our members to post some of the stories and perhaps bring out its application in real life.

Looking forward to the Parable series!!

_/\_ Tat twam asi

Uma
