Guest guest
Thankyou respected Ompremji

for such a vibrating explanation of shaktipaat.
For those who are unaware of the term i am writing a few lines about shaktipaat before discussing it further.

SHAKTIPAAT
==========
When Vivekananda (then called Narendra) went to shri Ramakrishna Paramhansa and asked to show him the truth, shri Paramhansa touched him with his feet and suddenly vivekananda went into samadhi and saw the truth. This incident changed his life and he became a great saint afterwards.

Similarly Saint Yogananda was touched by his guru on his chest and he saw different visions and also saw the Universe in a different perspective (Autobiography of a Yogi). Dacoit Angulimaal was changed into a saint by Buddha by just watching at him.

Why such sudden changes come in a common person ? The answer to all these riddles is Shakti Paat, which literally means sudden awakening of Energy. Shaktipaat is mainly linked with Tantraa, but I have found that shaktipaat happens in all types of sadhnaas. Somewhere a Guru by taking pity on his disciple (due to his good karma), collects all his energies and pass them to the body of the disciple by touching him on forehead, chest or anywhere else or just by his sight. This sudden shock of Guru’s energies open all the chakras of the disciple, and his Kundalini suddenly awakens and rushes upward, hence the visions and knowledge.

Tantraa says Shaktipaat is possible only when one is free from negative energies and is pure (called Malpaak in tantra), but there are still many who think, negative energies are removed after the shaktipaat. Tantraa says

Tama shaktyadhikaarasya nivrittey statparichyutau
vyanakti drik kriyanantasyam jagadwandhurano shivah

When Tama shakti which is holding an individual soul under darkness, is removed, God sends Gyanshakti (energy of knoweldge ) and makes him Free from the Bonds.

well this seems to be true as when Tama (negative energies) have been removed from all the chakras, it is natural for kundalini to wake up and start its journey upwards, but we see many examples where even dacoits were suddenly changed by shaktipaat. That clearly indicates that removal of Tamoguna is a way for shaktipaat, but not the only way.

As per many, Shaktipaat is sometimes mild, medium or intensified. Mild shaktipaat can be felt by bhaktas etc. and it can be noticed as sudden weeping and crying, or trembling of the whole body or blasting of the being. Medium is normally felt with siddhis and through gurus and intensified shaktipaat is being done by God like gurus where the whole life of the disciple is turned into something else like in the example of vivekananda and yogananda.

I will be grateful if my fellow sadhaka could share their views and experiences.

So dear Omprem jee this is my 1 cent to the topic. Could you add/subtract to this ?
also will you confirm that Shaktipaat is really possible without Guru too?

Also what is energy movement in shaktipaat. Is it our own kundalini which awakens and works in shaktipaat or it is an external energy (say that of guru/god) which enters our being and does the job of initiation of mantra, cleaning of chakra etc.

What are the results of Shaktipaat on the subject means what changes normally it will bring to his thoughts, and deeds.

Is shaktipaat necessary for every disciple

What are the qualities of a guru which make him fit to do shaktipaat on his disciple

Hari Aum
Guest guest
Blessed Self. Silentsoul

You asked if saktipat was possible without a Guru. 'Saktipat' means transmission by the guru. So, in a sense, saktipat is not possible without a guru. But, a form of shaktipat is possible if the person has been chosen as a channel for an astral entity. In that case, the astral entity is responsible for awakening the kundalini of the chosen person.

But I think that you are asking whether there can be sponstaneous eruptions of kundalini. Very definitely, "Yes". Kundalini can arise spontaneously in anyone at any time. The difficulty is that if the person has (1) not purified themselves, (2) not developed the chakras and nadis so that they can withstand the power of kundalini and (3) not reduced their karma influences, then that person will probably have a very troublesome time with kundalini rising even to point of being driven insane or to suicide or developing some serious and perhaps fatal physical illnesses.

With so many people currently engaged in a wide variety of both traditional and New Age spiritual practices WITH THE OBJECTIVE OF RAISING KUNDALINI, there has been so many of them running into physical, psychological and psychic difficulties that the psychiatric profession has been forced to recognize this problem officially. It is given the name 'spiritual emergence syndrome'. It occurs when people do these practices without benefit of an experienced teacher. It should be noted that most members of the psychiatric profession are not qualified to make this diagnosis. Those people are more likely to make a diagnosis of schizophrenia, paranoia, chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia or some other vaguely understood catch-all disease. Then the 'patient' is pumped full of drugs and labelled for life.

But kundalini can also arise in those who are not engaging in any spiritual practices but are just going about their daily business. These people also are at risk.

People who experience kundalini are forever changed. They often gain siddhis. They know the Truth of the scriptures. And they feel very different from their neighbours who do not have these experiences. They tend to seek out like-minded people in order to validate their experience and to make sense of it.

I may have mentioned this before, but I am part of a small team in Ottawa people who help others come to terms with their spontaneous kundalini experiences. Once you let people know that you have some experience in this area, it is surprising how many people come forward to seek advice in dealing with their own kundalini experience.

Regarding your last 2 questions: the scriptures and learned discourses tell us that a guru is necessary for spiritual enlightenment. That suggests that saktipat is a requirement for every disciple, although not necessarily in a particular lifetime. IMHO, the guru who is fit to give saktipat to a disciple is one who is One with Brahman, who can successfully raise kundalini at will to the Sahasrara chakra, who has conquered the ego, and who not been corrupted by the siddhis or the adulation of their disciples.

Hari Om Tat Sat
Jaya Guru

Omprem
