Guest guest
Namaste,

The Bhaktivedanta Charities and the International Society for Krishna Consicousness have just started a joint project to provide monthly food relief to the poor in India. Every month 3,000 needy children are being fed through the project. At present the relief efforts are focussing on the state of Orissa, which is faced with a serious food shortage due to floods.

In the regions where the food distribution is being done, the staple diet is nothing but plain rice and salt. They do not eat things such as vegetables, dahl, subji, etc., as they are not able to afford the ingredients. Many of the people whom we have fed told us they had never eaten these "delicacies" in their lives. They called the simple food of rice, dahl and subji we were serving them as "king's food". The small children were so hungry that they were eating huge plates of rice, pilled up like mountains leaving no place to put the subji or dahl.

The website which provides information about this food relief program is:

http://www.foodrelief.org

When you get time, please go through the site. You will find information and some recent photos of the food distribution in Orissa, as well as a short multimedia presentation. Please tell your friends about this site and help us to make sure this food relief program continues.

Sincerely,

Radha Madhab Sahu,
Bhaktivedanta Ashram,
Bhadrak, Orissa
http://www.foodrelief.org
