Guest guest
Babu! You brought back happy memories of Lohri. Having grown up in Delhi, that is how I celebrated the festival. I sure miss it here. We were taught another poem by our Punjabi friends which went

"Dalidder jaye, dalidder aaye, Dalidder ka jad, chulle paye". (Please correct me if its incorrect) (Sloth and laziness comes and goes; lets burn the roots of such laziness in the fire.)

Saying this we would throw ghee into the fire and watch the flames reach higher and higher.

safar_x! .. I'm glad you added the astronomical dimension of the date. All Indian festivals are invariably connected to important astronomical events and the festivals are ways of bringing it to the lives of common poeple.

Can you and other members expand on how such phenomenon helps in spiritual progress?

>>>>Call it Lohri, Pongal or Sankranti, the festival conveys the same message -- the bond of brotherhood and the spirit of oneness should prevail despite all odds. >>>>

Wouldn't it be wonderful, if this spirit could prevail all through the year? I guess it is the power of satsangh, and the group energy focusing on sattwic activities, which brings about an intense change in attitude among people, no matter what the festival is or in any part of the world. The challenge for us all is how to maintain that collective spirit throughout the year!

_/\_ Tat twam asi

Uma
Guest guest
In reply to Tatwamasi msg dt 14th jan. and in responce to, i quote "how such phenomenon helps in spiritual progress?" unquote,I dare to say that some reading is recommended before understanding how,why and when celestial phenomenon affect us. "Hour of God" by Sri Aurobindo, is the book.I paray that you find it and read.Nevertheless, dont ever take these phenomenon to possess some magical or mystical strenght. The dream of bringing down universal brotherhood on earth is praiseworthy and worth cherishing.Similer effort was done by Ancient hermits of India.Sri Aurobindo spent, after alipur bomb case, his whole life at Pondichery for bringing down "supramental" on earth. But we shall have to be ready to receive it.Are we ? I dont think that we are.
So let us all pray for the deam to be realised in reality.
S.
